Saturday Stitch 9.30am-2.00pm £25.00 per session, booked in advance + small charge payable on the day for the cost of materials provided 19-21 Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9AH Details to be found at: https://www.braintreecommunitycentre.org.uk 01376 323280 A unique opportunity to be part of a textile group meeting once a month, starting Saturday 6th October 2018, at Braintree Community Centre offering something a little bit different to advance your skills and to achieve your creative potential Translated through the medium of stitch - hand and machine embroidery- everything’s possible, have fun finding the way! Using traditional and contemporary techniques and experimenting with the diverse array of materials available to: · Learn new methods and techniques · Explore the design elements and principles · Discover how to combine and incorporate new techniques to complement your existing knowledge and skills · Record and present samples of your textile artwork in a journal format · Be guided by Maggie with any projects you have on the go or would like to begin Some of the techniques and methods covered over the course of the months will include: Various effects achieved using hand and machine embroidery, creating lace, canvas work, silk painting, patchwork, applique, quilting, wet felting, needle felting, bead making, wire work, distressing, printing Just some of the materials experimented with: Fabrics and threads, tyvek, wire, kozo, angellina, sizoflorwater soluble films and fabrics, transfilm, bondaweb, vilene, pelmet vilene, beads, sequins, paper, paints, foil, plastic Please Note: As a rule, the workshops will run on the first Saturday of every month, however due to the lack of rooms available in 2018 the workshop dates are as below: Saturday Stitch 20th October 2018 Saturday Stitch 3rd November 2018 Saturday Stitch 3rd November 2018
9.30am-2.00pm Dandelions In this workshop you'll be working with various products including Angelina to create a fine hair like effect resembling the delicate structure of a dandelion. A combination of machine and hand stitching will complete this treasure. Carry on with your journaling if you'd like to and don't forget, this is a great opportunity to be guided by Maggie as you continue or start any textile project you like. Students to-bring-list: Sewing machine, standard presser foot, metallic threads, machine embroidery threads, beads, sequins, paper cutting scissors, fabric scissors, embroidery scissors, pins, needles, water erasable fabric marker, notebook/paper to take notes. ‘On the Fence’ Exciting! Getting ready for the first page of your Textile Journal In the first of the monthly workshops, you will be: Exploring line, movement and contrast using straight stitch and free machine embroidery to create two pieces of work; one will be a geometric design and the other free flowing and lacy. The two can be displayed separately or combined to form one sample of textile art A journal is a lovely way of recording your textile journey and in this workshop, we will just be looking at different options ready to start assembling your work If you would like guidance with an on-going project or would like to start one, bring your ideas/work with you Students to-bring-list: Sewing machine for straight stitching and free machine embroidery, paper, pencil, pen, machine embroidery and/or sewing threads, paper cutting scissors, fabric, scissors, embroidery scissors, pins, needle, water erasable marker pen, 23cm/9” diameter embroidery hoop, 1 metre or longer extension lead Materials will be provided but if you have bits and pieces for example, lace, ribbon, fabric, string, wrapping paper, bring them along to include in your design Also, if you collect scraps of threads bring those to the workshop as well There will be a small cost for materials provided payable to the tutor on the day of the class |
